Resources to help you relate to Workaholics
We all have a Workaholic part in us, although how strongly developed it is may vary from person to person. When learning to relate more effectively with Workaholics, consider it an exercise in getting to know and appreciate that part within you as well!
I tried to do one more thing and ended up being late!
Workaholics pride themselves on being on time, and don’t want to waste time. This sometimes gets them into trouble when they find themselves with a little extra time on their hands. “Maybe I can fit in an extra task, or get one more thing done on my list before I go”, they reason. Then, oops, they end up being late because of it. Add smartphones and other productivity devices and the temptation to “get one more thing done” is even more difficult to resist. Taibi encourages Workaholics to plan some time to be cheerfully wasted each day. When you find yourself with time to spare, pat yourself on the back for being ahead of schedule, and cheerfully waste some time.
“Insist on the Coin Flip “ Great blog by Seth Godin about how we can become paralyzed by the endless search for data to help us make decisions. I hope this article offers some reassurance, and advice for us Workaholics who are trying to make that perfectly informed decision when under the influence of our drivers.
“Executive Wisdom: The 8 Traps of High Achievers” is another great post, this one is from Tim Link, of Link Resource Group. We believe it describes Workaholic distress, and offers some great suggestions for getting out of that distress.
Do you have a link, quote, story, or other resource to help others understand and relate to Workaholics? Will you share your ideas with us?
