Rebel

Resources to help you relate to Rebels

We all have a Rebel part in us, although how strongly developed it is may vary from person to person. When learning to relate more effectively with Rebels, consider it an exercise in getting to know and appreciate that part within you as well!

The irony of taking things away to motivate a Rebel.

“I’ve taken away their Xbox. I’ve taken away their TV. I’ve taken away their music player. I’ve grounded them from their friends, and taken away their bike. And things only seem to get worse! It’s such a battle.”

As Dr. Phil might ask, “How’s that working for you?” Since Rebels are motivated by contact, removing stimulation usually works to make things worse. It’s kind of like draining the oil from your car because the oil warning light comes on. The challenge and art of motivating Rebels is staying out of distress yourself and offering positive contact.

  1. Don Morris says:

When dealing with a rebel be sincere. As a base and phase rebel I can instantly tell if you are really having fun or just pretending to try to relate to me. Relax, have fun, show me you accept me the way I am and we can get on with business (or whatever else unfun thing you had planned!) :>)
